Mr. B. is planning a Yuri’s Night party for this year. As you may already know, Yuri Gagarin was the first human to leave Earth and enter space (check Race 2 Space Answers). This historic event occurred on 12 April 1961. The same day in April 1981 was also historic in that NASA launched the first space shuttle (Columbia). We will be celebrating humankind’s exploration with the rest of the world on that day. Check back often for more information.
If you have any suggestions on what we at WMS should do that day please post your suggestion(s) as a comment below.
Some early ideas:
- Launch model rockets
- Space-theme costumes
- Raffle w/ cool prizes
- Yuri’s Night sticker for all

[...] WMS Blasts Off! – Yuri's Night [...]
There should be waterslides and we should all go surfing in california

Humanities 5 suggestions:
We realize these suggestions are a tad late… but maybe some can work!! (or atleast be used for next year…)
Instead of a cake walk – we should have a “space walk” where you can win prizes
Food that people can eat in outer space
Celebrate Star Trek
Someone should dress up in a modeled space suit
Mr. Renda and Mr. Pepsoski should battle with light sabers
Dress up as martians
Each classroom could learn about a planet
Dress the classroooms up as planets, galaxies, stars, moons, etc.
Use mini trampolines so you can feel the effects of gravity (or lack of)…
Hallways could be decorated like outerspace (black with constellations and moons)
all great ideas.
